Information from the Secretary General
By AEI Editor
Published: Mar 16, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

The past 2 months have been very hectic for both the AEI board and its members.
Once again and with your help, an incredible amount of work has been done and results are beginning to show.  We are now aware that our efforts and PR relating to the dangers of pilots not reporting defects has finally been acknowledged.

Turkish Airlines 737-800 Accident Schiphol, Amsterdam (25.02.2009)
By AEI Editor
Published: Feb 25, 2009

Earlier today a Turkish Airlines Boeing 737 crashed on approach into Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. Fortunately fire did not break out on impact however regrettably there are confirmed fatalities. Our hearts and our thoughts go out to the relatives and loved ones at this sad time.

AEI feel that it is inappropriate to comment or speculate as to the cause at the present time preferring instead that accident investigators be allowed to get on with the tremendously difficult task of unravelling events.

Dear Colleagues,

An update on what has been happening within AEI. Please read it, distribute it amongst your members, have it reprinted in your own magazines etc.

Important is the serious question of Logbook checks.  This is mainly about safety, but also about protecting our profession.

We all need to be assured that aircraft defects  are reported when they occur instead of when convenient for the airlines.

Passenger Safety Compromised at Portugal’s National Airline
By AEI Editor
Published: Dec 23, 2008

TAP, Portugal’s national flag carrier has broken the golden rule of aviation by allowing commercial pressure to become paramount ahead of safety. AEI has documented evidence relating to an incredible series of unsafe incidents which has lead to non-airworthy planes continuing to transport unwitting passengers.

Published: Dec 15, 2008

During the AEI board meeting last week, the Executives discussed a number of key safety issues including our continuous fight to uphold standards. Having now obtained access to the 2007 EASA Standardisation report, it is clear that our fears have been confirmed and that the degradation of standards is continuing and relentless.

AEI affiliate, ASETMA from Spain is presently dealing with supporting 2 of its members involved in the Barajas disaster in August this year.
The AEI Executive Board fully supports ASETMA during these difficult times and will do all that it can in defence of its members, and it is obvious that the need for Aircraft Engineers to be a member of a union has never been more clear!
