Within the last 10 years there is almost nobody who has not been affected from liberalisation and globalisation. This huge progression of change has witnessed many big events such as changing the borders and great economic bankruptcies.
Of course it was unavoidable to keep the aerospace industry as an international business sector out of that process. After the cancellation of travelling among the European Union (EU) countries which Türkiye has a very strong relationship with, The European people started visiting other countries, they selected to travel by air. Türkiye is one of the countries where commercial air transportation is in a great development that of locating through the connection paths from western regions to the eastern ones. While the aviation sector is in “high-speed” improvement, let me tell you about the Maintenance and Repair Organisations (MRO) which is one of the fundamental activity of aerospace and their personnel...

Now 220 airliners are being operated in Türkiye. It can be claimed that every airline has its own a maintenance team. However if we want to mention comprehensive MRO’s there are just 2 actors; they are THY Teknik A.ª. (Turkish Airlines Technic Corporation - or -Turkish Technic Inc.) and MNG Teknik (MNG Tecnical Services Inc.) One of the firms, Turkish Technic was involved in Turkish Airlines as a maintenance department until May 2006 but currently it has its own MRO identity.

Whereas, MNG has been a part of the maintenance sector for the last 8 years.

When we compare the two companies, Turkish Technic is by far the widest of the two in overhaul and maintenance capability owner.

New Actors in Sector

A discussion on advanced commercial aviation necessitates dealing with the issue of increasing maintenance demand.
Increasing number of passengers, machines and departures require a punctual, flawless and reliable maintenance service. Some MRO companies upon realizing the maintenance supply shortage immediately invested to meet the need.

There are 3 main lines of investment underway, especially at Sabiha Gokcen International Airport.

They are;

-         Turkish Technic & Pratt & Whitney Engine Maintenance Centre - Turkish Engine Centre (TEC)
-         MRO Maintenance Services Inc. (My Technic)
-         Aerospace Maintenance and Repair Centre (HABOM)

These 3 projects are strong indicators of a promising future in Türkiye’s MRO market.
It is certain that companies which specialize in component overhaul are entering a new age in the Civil MRO industry.

While the investment continues, obstacle will continue to arise.  To mitigate their effects, long term plans need to be developed.

I personally believe that cooperation among training facilities, sectoral associations, and commercial establishments, is necessary to remedy the shortage of qualified maintenance staff.

Basic Material: Human, AME

Due to its nature, performing maintenance is only possible by humans. Because of the vast amount of creativity and dexterity required, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are even more so highly skilled. Consequently maintenance is innately a human practice.

Aircraft maintenance is being performed in accordance with the earlier published rules. As a result, every company's responsibility is to strictly obey all these instructions and regulations..
The same authorities that publish maintenance regulations also develop rules on maintenance personnel and continue to do so.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) said at one of their press release that 6 or 8 years of experience was necessary for an AME to achieve adequate performance. So, this statement demonstrates to us how important AME's are regarded currently.

Importance of Association at MRO Sector

In Türkiye, there are about 3000 personnel performing airline maintenance for commercial airlines. AME's haven't been able to acquire the skills necessary to deal with typical technical and social problems.

Associations founded to provide common ideas and actions are of considerable importance.
TALTA is one society which capitalized on this solidarity and coordinates its activities in accord with its mission to provide an umbrella organization for all AME's which is strong and singular.
