STAM

Casablanca December, 14th 2005
PRESS RELEASE
June 29th 2005, about 500 aircraft maintenance engineers (95 % of Royal air Maroc
technicians) went on strike because of the abusive relocation of the technician’s union secretary
general and his vice to different airports and 7 technicians were fired illegally just 2 months after
the creation of their union
The royal air Maroc management refused to establish serious negotiations with the technician’s
union representatives. As a result to the situation the management is maintaining all the fleet in
EAS-industries facilities in Perpignan and other facilities in UK wish costs a lot of money in
foreign currency that Morocco needs for its development.
On top of that the Moroccan government behaves with evident complicity since all the actions
were against law.
Monday December 12th, 2005 STAM had decided in its extraordinary general assembly to start
an open sit-in at RAM headquarters.
Tuesday December 13th, 2005, 400 engineers had begun their sit-in; they were surprised by
the number of repression forces brought to the place, 70 vehicles of police and army.
At 5 pm, the avenue leading to royal air Maroc headquarter was closed to traffic and more
repressive forces were added to the number already existing.
At 6 pm, forces began the assault using violence to evacuate the aircraft technicians’ sit-in. due
to this rude action many technicians were seriously injured and transported to hospital in a
critical state.
Therefore STAM informs and declares to national and international public opinion:
• Total responsibility of the Moroccan authorities for the use of repression and violence
against the aircraft maintenance engineers rights and dignity.
• Denunciate methods used by management of ROYAL AIR MAROC airlines in recruiting
private security agents (lots of them have criminal records).
• Determination to defend their rights even if the embargo and complicity of the Moroccan
authorities.
