CHECKLIST FOR SAFER MAINTENANCE
By Secretary Europe
Published: Nov 17, 2006

Aviation safety over the last 15 years has focused intensely on upgrading aircraft and systems, and improving pilot performance and situational awareness. This has paid of, and accident rates have declined steadily for jets and more erratically for turboprops.

Not following maintenance manuals, task cards, procedures or lack of proper training still account for most MRO mistakes. Estimates of the contribution of maintenance to accidents vary widely, due to different definitions. Boeing estimates that only about four percent of accidents were primarily caused by maintenance failures from which the pilot could not
have recovered.
